Breeding Bunny Lab Data
Problem:Examine natural selection in a small population of wild rabbits.
Mateials:Plastic bag of red beans that represent F
Plastic bag ofwhite beans that represent f
Paper bag that represents the gene pool in the English countryside where the rabbits
Randomly mate.
3 petri dishes.Introduction:this experiment will be a really good one if you do it correctly but if you don’t go with the experiment in the best way to do it your experiment will be bad and it’s not good for you and forthe teacher.in this activity you will do a kind of natural selection ,we will suppose that rabbits will mate and for that we will see during how many generations the FF,Ff and the ff individualswill live.
Hypothesis: I infer that rabbits that will not exist soon others will be the Ff ones why? Because heterozygous has more little opportunities than homozygous.
Procedure:
1:Label the 3 petridisheswith the provided labels
2:place the 5 red and 50 white beans(alleles)in the paper bag andshake up (mate)the rabbits.
3:without looking at the beans , select two at a time, and record theresults on data form next to “generation 1” for instance,if you draw one red and one white bean,place a mark in the chart under”number of Ff individuals.”Continue drawins pairs of beans and recording theresults in your chart until all beans have been selected and sorted.Place the “rabbits”into the appropriate dish:FF,Ff or ff.(Please nte that the total number of individuals will be half the totalnumber of beans because each rabbit reqires two alleles.)
4:The ff bunnies are bor furless.The cold weather kills them before they reach reproductive age ,so they can’t pass on their genes.place thebeans from the ff container aside before begginig the next round.
