Assignment 1 – Electrical Power Generation & Transmission
1. Assignment

Investigate electricity generation, transmission and distribution for a country of your choice. Your answer shouldinclude:

• a description of the main types of electricity generation prevalent in the country and an explanation of why particular generator technologies are preferred;

• describe theconfiguration of the transmission and distribution network and explain the rational behind its configuration; and

• some discussion should focus on the sustainability issues relevant to theelectricity sector in your country of choice.
2. Submission Details

Assignments should be up to 4 pages in length.

The submission date is Wednesday 24 October 2012. Assignments shouldbe submitted as a pdf file via myplace.

Marks will be deducted for late submissions (-10% per day) and for exceeding (or being significantly under) the specified page limit.
3. FAQ: How doI get a good mark?

Structure your answer so it reads clearly. Perhaps get someone to read your essay first and get feedback before handing it in for marking.

Make sure you fully answerthe questions being asked – and make it clear in your essay that you are addressing a particular question or issue.

Show evidence of solid research (include all references and make sure youuse some quality references – not just internet sites and class notes, a visit to the library is well worth while).

Don’t just regurgitate ideas and material from class - try and bring inideas from the your background reading that, perhaps, haven’t been covered in the lectures.

Show some evidence of deeper thinking i.e. try and explain issues or phenomena, rather than justdescribing them.

FINALLY: Plagiarism (direct copying of text e.g. from the internet, books or other student’s work) will not be tolerated and will result in a mark of zero being awarded.
