From prison to President
Nelson Mandela was born in South Africa on July, 1918.
He starteduniversity in 1938 and studied law. After he finished the university he lived and worked in Johannesburg. He was very interested in politics and wanted to changed the political system. He became Presidentof the ANC (African Nacional Congress) in 1952.
He had two children with his first wife, Evelyn. They got divorced in 1957 and in the same year he met a woman named Winnie Madikizela. Nelson andWinnie got married a year later and they also had two children. In 1954 he went to prison for sabotaje and other charges. He stayed in prison 26 years. And the world never forgot Nelson Mandela. And in1994, only 4 years he left prison, he became President of South Africa.Nelson and Winnie Mandela got divorced and two years later he got married his third wife, Graça Machel. When he wasPresident, he wrote a book about his life called Long Walk to Freedom.
