Of Mice and Men
Misunderstanding is an important theme in Of Mice and Men. For example we see this when Lennie and George are in Weed. There is a misunderstanding when Lennie touches a women dressbecause its soft, but when the women started screaming because she was getting to get scared Lennie started pulling harder so she started screaming that Lennie had raped her when it wasn’t true.Another example that shows misunderstanding is when a fight quickly ensures between Curley and Lennie because of a misunderstanding when Lennie smiles because he found something funny but Curley thingsthat Lennie was laughing at him so he starts punching Lennie.
We see another example of misunderstanding in the scene where Lennie kills Curley’s wife when he was stroking her hair because she had toldhim that her hair was very soft but when he didn’t stop stroking it Curley wife started screaming so Lennie freak out and put his hand on Curley mouth and nose and accidently snapped her neck. Thisexample shows misunderstanding because Lennie didn’t kill her on purpose he only didn’t know what to do because he knew if she would scream he could tend the rabbits when George, Candy, Crooks, andLennie would get a barn. This example is shown on page 91 “he shook her then, and he was angry with her. “don’t you go yelling”. He said, and he shooked her and her body flopped like a fish. We see another example of misunderstanding when Carlson thinks that Lennie has stolen the gun and this example is shown in page 97 when Carlson camerunning in. “the bastard’s stole my Luger,” he shouted. “it ain’t in my bag.” while George had it with him all the time because he wanted to kill Lennie or end him from his suffering.
