WHAT IS PLURILINGUALISM AND MULTILINGUALISM?
Plurilingualism and multilingualism is an actual movement that is present in all the society among the world today.The fact that in the last years peoplehas felt a necesity of recovering some aspects of their own culture, has generated the analisys and development of some studies in education that refers to abilities of language development that aremore and more required in the actual world. the plurilinguism and multilingualism that refers to the ability of persons to communicate and transfer information in different languages. In order tounderstand better the usage and necesity of developping these abilities, we are going to define what is multiligualism and plurilingualism and finally we are going to determine if these are applied to ourreality.
Plurilingualism is a situation wherein a person who has competence in more than one. “Plurilingualism is a concept developed in the Common European Framework of Reference of the Council ofEurope. It refers to the capacity of individuals to ‘speak’ (i.e. one or more of: converse, read and write) two or more languages or language varieties to differing degrees and for changing purposesthroughout their lives. It may be a consequence of language teaching and learning or of life experiences in multilingual environments. It may seem ‘second-nature’ to some and unattainable for others.It is related in complex ways to cultures and identities and can/should be linked to intercultural competence i.e. the ability to move and mediate among people of various languages and cultures. Thepurpose of this plenary lecture is to describe plurilingualism and to argue that it is a desirable goal for citizens in Europe. It will then also introduce some of the implications this has for languageeducation policy and curriculum in compulsory education and beyond, themes which may be continued in the conference as a whole.”
