* Executive summary

This report analyses the main approaches that aim to deal with the challenges facing waste management in Ahn Ming Districtlocated in Vietnam. The research allows furthering the knowledge into how other countries around the world have successfully dealt with similar problems. This report focuses on what has been previously achieved in Ahn Mihn District and how the program was applied. With all the information taken, additional problems during the research were found, such as cost, space, lack of volunteers, povertyetc. Taking into account all of these factors, the most appropriate solutions for this kind of situation are recommended.
The various similarities and differences have been found in regards to the processes that have been previously done; these have been compared to the current recommendations. Possible reasons as to how the current problems began were asked, the possible factors were analysed.Where did the problem begin? How did the mismanagement of waste occur? Who was involved in this kind of campaign or program? What have they done about it? Answering all these questions allowed for the finding of better solutions, or recommendations that aim to properly address the problems at hand.
The solutions analysed in this report are:
* Recycling, budget and implementation.
* Thedevelopment of composting systems.
* The creation of wastewater plants.
* The implementation of awareness and educational programs to educate the local population.
This report focuses on the amount of waste of Ahn Minh District produces, which has been alarmingly increasing over the last few years, due to the population increase. The disposal of waste that is currently produced and consequentenvironmental effects have also been studied in this report.
Methods analysis
During the first three topics the focus will be on:
* The cost of implementation which include the initial and the running cost
* The benefits of the solution (economical, environmental and social)
* The problem of the solution (economical, environmental and social)
For the last topic only thegovernment involvement will be discussed.
The analysis suggests that recycling and composting are amongst the best options but wastewater disposal is currently critical.
In addition we recommended educational programs to provide general knowledge about the importance of their participations and to be involved in the community needs. This let us know the importance of the community training, and withthe help of volunteers a part of the community could expand this knowledge and continue with their own training.
