Smart phones—across the board--are only allowing us to better access and control the wealth of technology available. A sophisticated spellcheck is no reason for not learning proper rules of English, just as advanced mapping technology does not deny us the opportunity to develop an "internalized" understanding of directions, etc., as somepeople have suggested. The "we" in question is the proper focus of analysis, not the smart phone. Collectively, it is arguably true that people are inclined to "take the easiest route," thus becomingmore dependent upon the technology. The most decisive factor in how smart phones are affecting intelligence is the individual user's resolve on what he wishes to gain from his experience with thetechnology. With that being said, I do believe there is a lot of flexibility in terms of establishing a medium between convenience and mental development--as much flexibility as there is wealth ofapplications of the technology. It is easy to make smart phones the newest scapegoat, harder to take a more realistic appraisal of ourselves and our own willingness to WORK toward self- improvement.

Smart phones allow education to take place more smoothly than before. Pupils are able to access a plethora of information that might have been in accessible without ateacher previously. With this abundant information, pupils no longer have to rely on the teacher only, they can learn be yond class, anywhere, anytime. But of course, the down side would come in the formof distraction, such as from social media network king sites, but the excess information learned definitely out weighs the negative implications of smart phones in education!
