Mexico, why big business is standing its ground

Mexico has been a strategic place for foreign investment, not only because of its neighborhood with the United States, but also for the facilitiesfor it to occur without many obstacles.

After globalization foreign investment increased even more, however, so did insecurity and violence due to drug trafficking in Mexico, especially on theborder, which has become an area preferred by investors.

At the borders of Baja California, Chihuahua and Tamaulipas, industries from the U.S., Japan, and Canada, among others, dedicated to theassembly of car products, aerospace, medical and technological products have installed their assembly plant.

Emerson Electric, Visteon, Delphi motors, Whirlpool, Honeywell, Lenovo, Gulfstream, LG, Ford,Samsung, Toyota, among others, are companies that have installed their manufacturing plants in our country creating jobs, and placing Mexico as a manufacturing industry very high up at internationallevel.
However, millions of jobs have been lost in the past years, due to both the economical downturn and the impact that criminal organizations have had in this area of our country.
Moreover, thedevaluation of the Mexican peso against the dollar, as well as low levels of education in Mexico, have made the value of the labor extremely cheap, and so manufacturing employment is like a magnetfor most of the population.

So while China and India make the headlines, Mexico is becoming increasingly competitive due to factors such as the quality of their products, transportation costs, anddelays due to lack off communication, as well as the price of the peso against the dollar, which make it cheaper to operate in out country compared to others such as China, Canada or in the U.S itself.This encourages the government’s collaboration with the industry and schools to ensure highly qualified workforce for technology and other important sectors.
