8 Cool Slang Phrases From Movies Read these 8 phrases I picked out from some popular movies I watched lately. These are common in real life and I use these all the time with my friends. These are fun and really useful. Trust me. In the Doghouse In a relationship, if a guy is “in the doghouse” it means he is in trouble with his girlfriend. She’s angry with him for something and she’s probably nottalking to him. Husbands can be “in the doghouse” too. If a couple is living together, being in the doghouse means that your wife, or girlfriend, probably won’t let you even sleep in the same bed during that time. You will have to sleep on the couch until she decides to forgive you. The couch is kind of like the “dog house”. My friend came over the other day and said, “Hey guys, I’m in thedoghouse again”. I immediately knew what he was talking about and asked, “What did you do this time?” This is a true story. My friend gets in trouble all the time with his girlfriend. This time he went to

the bar until 6am. His girlfriend was waiting at home for him and she got really angry because he wasn’t checking his phone. She wouldn’t talk to him for 2 days orpick up her phone. Seeing someone This is a tricky and really useful slang phrase to totally understand. If you are “seeing someone” it means that you are dating someone but it’s not serious enough yet to call yourself “boyfriend and girlfriend”. It probably means you’ve been out on a few dates and maybe kissed or even spent the night together. It’s just a phase that means you haven’t officiallytalked about your relationship yet. If you are “seeing someone” it means that you can date other people as well. Sometimes this stage causes a lot of confusion because someone might think the relationship is more serious than the other person. If a real relationship is going through a bad time someone might say, “Maybe we should see other people”. That means, “Maybe we should be allowed to dateother people”. It’s kind of like a break up. This is also not too clear and needs to be talked about. Sometimes someone will just say this when a couple is arguing.

Another way of asking if someone is totally single is saying, “Are you seeing anyone right now?” This question is a common as “Do you have a girlfriend?” Set in his ways If someone is “set in their ways”it means that they are stubborn and have a hard time changing. It’s common that old people are “set in their ways”. They can’t change their opinion even if new and better information comes along. They don’t want to listen and seem to not even be thinking. They’ve thought the same way for a long time and don’t plan to change it for anything. Here is a way a girl could use this phrase. “I can’ttell my grandmother that I have a boyfriend. I’m 17 and she thinks I‘m too young for that. She’s a great lady but she’s really set in her ways. She won’t be able to understand.” Going Commando This is a hilarious slang phrase that I’m sure you

won’t learn in school. I heard it in a movie the other day. It will make native speakers laugh if you use it. It means towear your clothes with no underwear underneath. It’s more commonly used for men. If they are wearing jeans with no underwear underneath, they could say, “I’m going commando today”. I don’t really know where the phrase came from but it’s a funny idea. I guess people do this if they are in a hurry and can’t find any clean underwear. Second guess This is a really useful slang phrase and it’s somethingwe all do from time to time. If you “second guess” yourself it means that you first made a decision and then you start to question it. You start to think about whether or not you made the right decision and you are considering changing it. It’s an uncomfortable position to be in because you are having a really difficult time making a decision. Someone could say, “I chose psychology as my major...
