Traditional music is known across the world for its sophisticated rhythms. The sets of drums and other instruments playing along several different metrics rhythmic patterns and structuresthat create complex polyrhythmic calls. It is also common in the music group has performed in a leading voice and other voices answered him in turn. In addition to accompanying the dances, work,ceremonies and royal processions, music is also used for communication, mimicking the spoken language.

In societies that maintain their traditional religion, music is usually linked so inextricably linkedwith the social or religious dimension as an instrument of communication with the supernatural, using it in healing people, hunting domains daily in fishing or farming.

The strongest musical linkbetween the different population groups is choral music. Western and African traditions have converged in this style as Western choral groups discover the folklore characteristic of traditional ethniccultures and ethnic choirs discover liturgical choral music of the West.

In recent years there has been a revolution in the South African musical. Although there is still a clear polarization onthe one hand the European influence on the other ethnic style with bases in Africa, are beginning a process of understanding and mutual acceptance.
