Scientists at the University of Cambridge say they have made new progress that could lead to theoretical achievement so far has been possible only in fiction: teleportation. Weare still far from building a device to take us from one place to another in the world at the speed of light, but researchers have demonstrated a mathematical model that this is possible in thequantum world. In this strange universe governed by the behavior of molecules and atoms may occur such amazing things like being in two places at once.
The findings of these British physicists, publishedin the journal Physical Review, serve primarily to develop the expected quantum computing, and to send information at a rate that is impossible today. Teleportation was considered an illusion, howeverin 1993 a group of scientists first calculated it could work, and in the last ten years has shown that generated intense connections between particles may be the key. According to the law of quantumentanglement, two quantum particles like electrons or protons are intrinsically linked and synchronization preserved regardless of whether they are together or on opposite sides of the universe.
It isthrough this connection that can be sent quantum bits (qubits) from one place to another. Now, for the first time, researchers have developed a mathematical model that explains how to increase theeffectiveness of those connections. The team has also developed a generalized form of teleportation, which allows a large number of potential applications in the quantum world. Scientists hope theirfindings can be used in the field of quantum computing. Quantum computers have a power far greater than that of a conventional computer.
