The direct method.
This method is probably one of the most appropriate ways to approach students to the target language because of its techniques and principles. The main objective that involvesthis method is to use foreign/target language as a communicative tool, presenting it without using translation into native language. The use of strategies as realia or mimics to explain meanings allowsthe student to develop his/her capacity to interpret without a specific grammar rule. This method also uses cultural issues of the foreign country in order to contextualize students in a realsituational use of the language. As a final but very important characteristic, the direct method develops all the skills (writing, speaking, reading and listening) at the same time. This fact provides to thestudents enough tools to develop their communicative skills in an integral way.
Taking in account the information presented above, it is possible to highlight that it is one of the most completemethods studied along the course. The development of all the skills in the classroom is complemented with the unconscious construction of grammar rules. Also, the approach to the language target throughcultural issues gives more significance to the learning/teaching process. It is because when the learner/teacher has a clear objective to do this approach, it is not only a repetition of words orphrases without any sense, but a way to share experiences, knowledge and attitudes in regard to the target language as a cultural issue.
As a conclusion, I agree with the objective of communicationinvolved in this way of teaching. However, it is important to consider that sometimes the use of native language to the comprehension of the information is a good strategy to beginners.
