In November 18th 2001, Arnold Schwarzenneger, who back in the 80′s became a Hollywood star, was elected governor of California.
Schwarzenneger is not the only actor that has beengovernor of California. Another famous star served in the Golden State, from 1967 to 1975, before becoming president of the United States: Ronald Reagan.
Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger was born on July 30th,1947 in Thal, Austria. His passion was bodybuilding, and his dream was to go to the United States.
At the age of 20, he became the youngest man to win the “Mr. Universe” title. Speaking littleEnglish, Schwarzenegger made his dream come true and moved to the United States. There, he won several titles and was 7 times Mr. Olympia. In 1983, Schwarzenegger obtained his U.S. citizenship.
Hisfirst major role was “Conan the Barbarian”, back 1982. He played a sword-wielding hero of ancient times. Then in 1984, he did the sequel “Conan the Destroyer”.
His first big success was the action film“Terminator” in which he played a killer cyborg sent from the future to present times. Who doesn’t remember his now famous line: “I’ll be back”.
In 1990, he was nominated for the Oscar Award for thesci-fi thriller “Total Recall”.
He then performed in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” (1991) which contains the memorable phrase “Hasta la vista, baby”. “Terminator 3″ as well as some comedies like“Twins”, with Danny DeVito, “Kindergarten Cop”, and “True Lies” with Jamie Lee Curtis are also part of his career as an actor.
But, Arnold Schwarzenegger also built a reputation as businessman and advocateof good causes as physical fitness and after school programs for children.
