EVALUACIÓN DE LOS TRATAMIENTOS PERIODONTALES EN LA FACULTAD DE ODONTOLOGIA  DE LA UNIVERSIDAD CENTRAL DE VENEZUELA. CARACAS – VENEZUELA.

RESUMEN
Hasta el presente, en la Facultad de Odontología de la U.C.V., no se realiza ningún tipo de medición o índice previo ni posterior al tratamiento periodontal, que permita verificar si los procedimientos ejecutados arrojan resultados satisfactorios en los pacientes. El  objetivo del estudio, fue evaluar lostratamientos periodontales sencillos realizados por los estudiantes a sus pacientes, en la sala clínica 3ero norte nocturno, para lo cual se tomaron todos los pacientes de primera consulta en el lapso de un año, en total 80, de los cuales 46 culminaron el estudio; se les aplicó el índice Periodontal de Rusell y el de Higiene Oral Simplificado, al comienzo y al final del tratamiento periodontal. Alcomparar los valores medios encontrados para ambos índices, tanto iniciales como finales se hallaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas al ser analizados con el test no parametrico de Wilcoxón, es decir, que los tratamientos periodontales fueron efectivos. Se hace necesario el uso sistemático del IP. y el l.H.O.S. en los servicios clínicos universitarios, ya que constituiría una experienciade aprendizaje para el alumnado, una fuente de datos para la docencia y la investigación y un gran aporte a la prevención de las afecciones periodontales en la comunidad.

Abstrac:
To this day, in the school of dentistry of the Central University of Venezuela, no test or indexare taken prior or after any periodontal treatment, which could allow to verify if the procedures done give satisfactory results in the patients. The objective of this study, was to evaluate the basic periodontal treatments done by the students to their patients, in the clinics of the third floor during the evening turn, for which all patients in their first visit during period of a year, a totalof  80 patients were evaluated, in 46 of those patients the study was done completely. To this group of 46 the Periodontal Index of Rusell and the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index were applied of the beginning and the end of the periodontal treatment. After comparing the average values found for both index, at the beginning and the end of the treatment, statistically significant differences werefound after having analyze the results with the Wilcoxon’s test (this test is not parametric), which shows that the periodontal treatment were effective.
It is necessary the systematic use of the P.I. and the S.O.H.I. in the clinical services of the university, because they will constitute an experience for learning to the students, also a database for the faculty and for investigation purposes, aswell as a great contribution to the prevention of periodontal diseases in the community.

INTRODUCCION
La literatura dental reporta que la incidencia de la enfermedad periodontal la lleva a ocupar el segundo lugar como problema de Salud Pública (1), en nuestro país estudios en este campodemuestran una alta prevalencia de dicha enfermedad (2), (3). En los pacientes que acuden a la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, se encontró un alto índice de placa dental y como consecuencia, problemas periodontales de tipo inflamatorio (4)
