Finishing high schoolcan be hard. How can I catch up once I’ve fallen behind?
In New York City, students have the right to a free public education through the year they turn 21 years old. The NYC Department of Educationhas many options to help students get back on track to high school graduation and even offers a free GED program for students between 18 and 21. The Referral Centers can help students understand andaccess the options that are right for them.

Referral Centers are here to help you plan your education, including college and/or career.
Staff at the centers can tell you about high school alternativeprograms, including: GED Plus, Young Adult Borough Centers (YABCs), Learning to Work (LTW) and Transfer Schools. The Referral Centers can help you determine a plan to complete high school even ifyou: • Missed a lot of school or had attendance problems • Stopped going to school or dropped out • Have become pregnant or a parent • Need drug treatment services • Had legal troubles • Are new to theU.S. and want an alternative to high school Talk to a staff member at your school or a Referral Center (see locations on the back) for more information.

Who should go to the Referral Centers?
Youshould go to a Referral Center if you are under 21 years old, live in New York City and don’t have a high school diploma, but want to continue your education and need additional support to re-connectwith school. Everyone is welcome to learn more about their options.
