RESUMEN
Existe un cierto número de lugares comunes sobre la dignidad humana
que hacen necesario distinguir entre dignidad personal (vinculada solo
con un individuo determinado) y dignidad ontológica (ligada además o
antes quenada con el género humano). La primera es subjetiva y relativa, la segunda objetiva y absoluta. En otras palabras, la primera es independiente de la autovaloración que uno posee acerca de sí mismo.
Todo examen de la dignidad debe partir de una definición del ser humano y la más apropiada es la surgida del enfoque cristiano del hombre
como algo excepcional dentro de la naturaleza, a diferencia deotras concepciones que lo relativizan demasiado y por eso no son convenientes
para plantear la dignidad humana como categoría incondicional. En este
orden de ideas, no es fácil infringir la dignidad en cuestión. Para quebrantarla, se debe arrematar al hombre como representante de la
raza humana. El acuerdo del individuo para acometer tal hecho está
excluido.
La dignidad humana es siempre de talantedefensivo. Ella protege al
hombre contra una violación de lo que es más humano en él. Por eso,
hay que separarla de la libertad. A pesar de la conexión entre ambas
categorías no se pueden equiparar. La persona es digna por cuanto es
libre, pero no existe una dependencia en el sentido contrario. La dignidad es omnímoda. En caso de colisión entre esta y la libertad de palabra, cabe dar siempre laprimacía al respeto por la primera. Por otro
lado, es importante destacar que la dignidad nada tiene que ver con la
calidad de vida; ya que en ese caso sería solo pertinente a quienes gozan
de un elevado nivel del bienestar material, no a los pobres.

ABSTRACT
Professor Krystian Complak questions a number of clichés on human
dignity. In the first place, he distinguishes between personal dignity (linked
with a given person only) and ontological dignity (linked, besides or first
of all, with the humankind as a whole). The first one is subjective and
relative, whereas thesecond is objective and absolute. In other words,
the first one is independent of self-valuation. Precisely, this second concept
is examined here.
The author points out that any study whatsoever made of human dignity,
shall have as a premise the definition of man. According to the K. Complak
the best starting point should be the Christian approach to the person
as something exceptional in theWorld, unlike other conceptions of man
that are too relativist and for that reason not appropriate to discuss
human dignity as an unconditional category. In this connection, it is not
easy to infringe that dignity. To break it, the individual should be attacked
or finished off as a representative of the human race. The previous
consent of the concerned individual [to undertake that act] is excluded.Human dignity is always defensive. It protects individuals against a
violation of what is most human in them. For that reason, it should be
separated from freedom. Despite the connection between the two notions,
it is impossible to put them at the same level. The individual is decent.
But, there is no feedback at all Dignity is overwhelming. When a collision
occurs between it and freedom of speech,the preference should be always
with the man’s dignity. On the other hand, the examined dignity has
nothing to do with the living standards. Should this be case, human
dignity would be only with the rich, not with the poor.
