A. The "proactive" as defined
While the word proactive is now very common in business management texts, it is a term
not found in most dictionaries. It does not mean just take the initiative. Means that as
humans are rescponsible for our own lives. Our behavior is a function of our
decisions, not our conditions. We can subordinate feelings to values. We have the initiative
andresponsibility to make things happen.
Consider the word "responsibility", in which we find references to the word "answer" and
"Skill" means the ability to choose the answer. Very proactive people recognize that responsibility. No
say that their behavior is the result of the conditions, conditions or circumstances. His
behavior is a product of their own conscious choice, based on values and notthe product of
conditions and is based on sentiment.
Proactive people focus their efforts in the sphere of influence. They are dedicated to the things about
which can do something. His energy is positive: it expands and increases, which leads to the expansion of
circle of influence.
On the other hand, reactive people focus their efforts in the circle of concern. Its focus is in thedefects of others in the problems of the environment and in circumstances over which they have no
control. This results in feelings of guilt and allegations, a reactive language and feelings intensified
Acute impotence. The negative energy generated by that focus, combined with neglect of the areas
you can do something, you determine that your circle of influence shrinks.
The problems we facefall into one of three possible areas: the direct control (which involves our
own behavior), the indirect control (which involves the behavior of others), or the absence of
control (problems about which we can not do anything, as the realities of our situational or
passes). The proactive approach the first step towards addressing the three types of problems within
our present circle ofinfluence.
Direct control problems are resolved to work on our habits. Are obviously within
our circle of influence. They are the "private victories" of habits 1, 2 and 3.
Indirect control problems are solved by changing our methods of influence. They are the "wins
public "of habits 4, 5 and 6. Personally I have identified over 30 different methods of influence
human, are as diverse as theempathy of the confrontation or the example of persuasion. Most
people have in their repertoire only three or four of these methods usually begin with the
reasoning, and (if it does not give results) go to the fight or flight. It is very liberating to accept the idea
we can learn new methods of human influence, rather than constantly trying to use
old ineffective methods to "put in order"to others.
The problems of lack of control means taking responsibility to change our attitudes:
It is encouraging to see that in choosing our response to circumstances powerfully influenced
our circumstances. When we change one part of a chemical formula, we change the nature of
results.
While we are free to choose our actions, we are not to choose the consequences of those actions. The consequences are governed by natural laws. Are outside the sphere of influence in the circle
concern.
III. Second habit: It means "start with the end in mind"
Is to begin today with the image, picture or paradigm of life as a reference or standard
for consideration of all the other things. Every part of life (the behavior of today, tomorrow, that of
Next week the next month) can beexamined in the context of the whole, what one would really
matters most. Keeping clearly in mind that end, can you ensure that you do on any day
particular, does not violate the criteria were defined as being of paramount importance, and that each day contributes
significantly to the vi sion we have of his life as a whole.
Begin with the end in mind is to understand clearly the target. It...
