Yuppies
Yuppie- short for "young urban professional" or "young upwardly-mobile professional"- is a term that refers to a member of the upper middle class or upper class in theirtwenty or thirty. It first came into use in the early eighties and largely faded from American popular culture in the late eighties, due to the 1987 stock market crash and the early ninety recessions.The Yuppie term covers a range of behavioral characteristics decanted into a common stereotype in the United States. Basically they are people, between twenty and forty, upper-middle-income, recentlygraduated from universities and practicing their professions, and to keep up technologically and fashion dress. They have a heightened tendency to value material goods, this applies to investments instock markets, buying cars and stay ahead in technology. However, the term is also used pejoratively to define the young professional, successful, arrogant and "undeservedly rich" because its primarysearches Coexistence status. The shortage of time and stress with living affect their family relationships.
Although there is an air of informality among them, according to the stereotype, there issome unwritten code of conduct that governs their activities, from sports like golf or squash, to eat at certain restaurants. Politically speaking, one could say that they are much less liberal thantheir "predecessors" hippies. You can also say that they are more liberal than manual workers but more conservative than those considered "urban poor".
