Anorexia & Bulimia
The eating disorders are a very common problem in our globalized world; the social pressure for being “perfect” according the accepted cannons of beauty, can removes to seriouspsychological disorders, physic diseases and even coming to the death. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are two psychological disorders that concern mostly to adolescents and women and I chose itbecause it’s a very common disorder nowadays and I wanted to know more about what causes it and what happen to people who suffers it.
What is anorexia nervosa?
Anorexia nervosa, commonly referred tosimply as anorexia, is one type of eating disorder. More importantly, it is also a psychological disorder; which is characterized principally by eating privation, a excessive loss of weight, airrational fear of gaining weight, and a distorted body self-perception. People affected by this disorder are mostly women (about 95%) most often teenage girls, between 13-19 years-old, but males can developthe disorder as well. In the UK, 1 in 100 women aged between 15 and 30, suffers from anorexia. Reports show girls as young as five years of age have weight concerns, and think about going on a diet.What is Bulimia nervosa?
Bulimia nerviosa is also a eating and a psychological disorder characterized by binge eating (episodes of secretive excessing eating) followed by episodes of guilt andinappropriate methods of weight control, such as self-induced vomiting (purging), abuse of laxatives and diuretics, or excessive exercise. Approximately 1-2 percent of women in the UK suffer frombulimia. Every year there are as many as 18 new cases of bulimia nervosa per 100,000 population per year. Between 1 and 3 percent of young women are thought to be bulimic at any given moment in time. Casesof bulimia nervosa are rarely seen in people under the age of 13
