Anorexia Nervosa:
The Worst Eating Disorder

Most people believe that Eating Disorders like Anorexia Nervosa are totally out of their reach because they exercise and carry a normal life. People relate Eating Disorders with super models or TV hosts but they are far from the reality because these illnesses are a lot more common. Having an Eating Disorder represents changing your life style, yourappearance and putting in high risk your health and your life. But nobody expects to develop this kind of disorders, actually most people do not realize they have one, until its critical. Anorexia Nervosa is a deathful disease that produces abnormal weight loss; constant society pressure and obsessive pursue of perfection lead young women into this dangerous eating disorder.

An Eating Disorderis not just losing weight but also gaining it. Eating Disorders produce serious disturbances in the regular diet, such as eating small amounts of food or overeating. This kind of disorder has to do with the physical health and mental health. People that suffer this illness avoid eating to the point that the can barely move, in other cases they develop severe cases of obesity. Eating Disorders arereal and treatable illnesses adding up with the psychological affection that may include depression, anxiety and lack of self-esteem. People that face Anorexia Nervosa have a constant fear of getting fat, even though they are extremely thin. But Anorexia Nervosa is not the only Eating Disorder, there are so much more like Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Disorder.
People must be aware that EatingDisorders are reachable and anyone can develop them. Some alert signs are: Extreme Thinness, Anxiety produced by the fear of gaining weight, Lack of menstruation on female, Overeating, Restricted eating, Osteoporosis, Severe constipation.
Anorexia Nervosa is one type of Eating Disorder that produce in patients psychological concerns like perceiving themselves as overweight, even though they areextremely thin. People with this illness become obsessed by weight gaining and develop severe cases of anxiety, weighting themselves repeatedly and eat proportionally reduced amounts of food. They feel they need to control their weight daily and if for some reasons they ingest any food, they feel guilty and self-induce vomit, also turn to the use of diuretics and Laxatives.
“In women, the prevalenceof anorexia nervosa syndrome development at any age is 0.5 %”(Walsh 486).
Anorexia Nervosa is much less common in men and more prevalent in cultures where food is plentiful and the thinness is considered attractive and perfect. The maximum risk affects people who look for absolute thinness, as ballet professionals and models. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are characterized by severedisorders in eating behavior. One significant characteristic of anorexia nervosa is the refusal to maintain a minimal normal body weight. BN or Bulimia nervosa is characterized by constant eating of excessive amounts of food followed by abnormal behaviors such as self-induced vomiting, depression and anxiety. This people think that by inducing vomit they will get rid of any food they have ingestedand will help them feel less guilty.
According to Dr. Timothy Walsh “The essential distinction between anorexia and bulimia depends on body weight, weight of patients with anorexia is significantly low, while the weight of bulimia nervosa patients is within normal limits or exceeded.” (Walsh 482).
Battle against Anorexia Nervosa. Dealing with a dangerous disease like this takes a lot of courageand determination. One of the most important factors is the family support. Many of the patients suffering this illness become sicker on a daily basis, but unfortunately they do not understand the circumstances until it is too late.
