Arrenged Marriages
Throughout the world men and women are able to connect sentimentally with a partner, have a relationship and get married if they decide to share the rest of their lives together;however, there are still countries in which people are not allowed to choose their couples or decide who they want to marry with. Every culture differs greatly from another in many aspects, eventhough Chilean rich families used to arrange marriages in the past, so that they could keep their wealth in the family, it is a tradition that has become old fashioned and nobody practices at present; incontrast, arranged marriages are a common practice in India and an important aspect of the culture. Indian marriages are social events rather than individual due to the fact that it is the family andclose relatives who make the decision of who marries who within the caste, consequently this union can be divested from love, personal preferences, desire and passion. 95% of Indian marriages are infact by convenience, which means that parents look for their son and daughter’s future wife and husband by means of institutions, press, relatives and friends giving priority to important facts, suchas good education, wealth, beauty, social position and the colour of the skin. “The actual essence behind an Indian marriage celebration is the union of two souls, two families and two communities andthat makes Hindu weddings a unique celebration of culture and tradition”. On the other hand the way that Chilean people celebrate marriages is extremely different from the Indians. For instancearranged marriages do not exist, men and women choose freely the person they want to marry with and they do it with or without their families’ approval, usually after a long period of time in which thecouple knows each other very well physically and psychologically, they share experiences that make the relationship grow in love, trust and fidelity.
