Ball Python Snake
The Python regius snake is a constrictor snake, a non-venomous snake found in Africa.It is found to be the smallest of the python species and is popular in the pet trade due to its typically docile temperament. It is also known as the royal python or ball python. The name “ballpython” refers to the reptile’s tendency to curl up into a ball like shape when it is stressed or frightened. The name “royal python” is based in part of the story of Cleopatra wearing a snake aroundher wrist.
These snakes are elongated, limbless, flexible reptiles. Fully grown Ball pythons reach up to 4 – 5 feet in length. The females tend to grow bigger than the males, especially in thehead section. Like all pythons and boas, Ball pythons have anal spurs; these are single claws appearing on either side of the vent. Usually in this case the male has longer spurs than the females.Their natural habitats are on open, often arid habitats like savannahs and other grasslands. They are pretty much found in Africa from Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia,Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, and Nigeria through Cameroon, Chad and the Central African Republic to Sudan and Uganda.
When it comes to feeding, Ball pythons are a great money saver. Although I do adviseif you don’t like seeing cute rodents die, then please don’t buy this pet. They eat all sorts of rodents such as lab mice, hamsters, Ginny pigs, and gerbils. They can also eat baby chicks,ducklings, and baby goose. As mentioned earlier, these snakes are a constrictor snake, which means that they don’t need venom to kill their victims. Constrictor snakes like the Anaconda, bite their prey,then they squeeze and choke their victims until they are out of air and die.
