"Tourism" that is helping EVENT PANAMA grow
economically.

According to the government's Strategic Plan 2009-2014, Panama aims to position itself in the top tourism destination for leisure andbusiness segment, conferences and conventions. In this regard, the government and the ATP have made significant actions aimed at developing and improving the industry, from the decree for quick and easymigration entry tourists to Panama, the new direct air routes from Panama to major destinations and the creation of a modern data center for tourism. In addition, renowned luxury hotel chains such asRiu Plaza, the Hilton and the first Waldorf Astoria hotel in Latin America are opening our territory and adding to a growing range of hotels whose client is a high economic profile.

The economicimpact of tourism in the economy is reflected in the cost per thousand 246 million dollars that made the 1.2 million visitors who arrived during the first nine months of this year.

According toestimates of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the contribution of tourism in Panama represents 10% of the national economy.
This position in the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country isreflected in the large infrastructures that have been built as part of this industry, which comprises the hotel business, commercial, transportation and recreational activities. A major source of theincrease in this sector is due to the increase in the cruise industry in the Panamanian coasts, both in the Pacific and the Atlantic, where ports are specialized in this activity.
