Natural Phenomena
A natural phenomenon is a change of nature that happens by itself. It is important to know the nature damage with only passing, those ongoing processes of movement and transformations occurring in nature. These may affect human life (epidemics, weather conditions, natural disasters, etc).
This term also refers generally to the dangerous natural phenomena also called "naturaldisasters". Rain, for example, is not it a "disaster", but may be so depending on the human perspective, if certain conditions are met. Poor urban planning, to building structures in areas vulnerable to flooding or other people can cause disastrous effects on humans.

It should be noted that human actions (a moving car, for example) are always subject to natural laws, however, are not consideredin this sense, natural phenomena, as they depend on the will of humans.

Natural Disasters

Natural phenomena such as rain, earthquakes, hurricanes or wind, they become disasters when they exceed a limit of normal usually measured through a parameter.

The term disaster refers tothe enormous human and material losses caused by events or phenomena as earthquakes, floods, landslides, deforestation, pollution and others.

Disasters are caused by human activities that alter the normal environment. Some of these are: environmental pollution, erroneous and irrational exploitation of renewable natural resources such as forests and soil and non-renewable such as minerals,building houses and buildings at risk.
Human activity in areas with high probability of natural disasters is known as high risk. High-risk areas without instrumentation and appropriate measures to respond to natural disasters or reduce their negative effects are known as areas of high vulnerability.

Lake Valencia

Valencia Lake Tacarigua Lake is the second largest lake in Venezuela after LakeMaracaibo. It is located in a rift valley known as the Graben of Valencia is among the Coast Mountains and the mountainous interior. The endo-type basin is 3,150 km and covers generally the Lake of Valencia is also known popularly as the "Valleys of Aragua." Today the lake covers and area of 344 km along its banks are raised important urban centers of Venezuela as: Valencia, Maracay, Maria, SanJoaquin, Güigüe.

The Valencia lake basin is of type endo (the one in Venezuela), it receives water from numerous streams of short courses, among which Güigüe rivers, Turmero, El Limon, Cabriales, Los Guayos and Aragua which is the most important.

Today is worsening the problem of rising lake level due to the drift of the waters of the Orinoco basin (reservoirs and Cachinche Pao Pao La Balsa, inthe river Pao) made towards the lake endorheic Valencia, having done the drainage channels for excess water to get them out of the basin before it reaches a level below the outlet of the basin by gravity, in the old river course Cabriales. As a result, levels of pollution of its waters have also been increasing due to the heavy industrialization of the cities of Maracay and Valencia, whose sewageis dumped directly into the lake, in large part, without prior treatment, making unattractive development of tourism or recreational activities.

Currently projects are underway that will allow the consolidation of the Lake through a series of works such as the adequacy of the treatment plants The Guayos, La Mariposa and Taiguayguay among others. The lake is experiencing a bad time because ofhigh pollution, which affects the health of the population. The constant flood in 2010 increased their level and exceeded the capabilities groundwater.
