Mill Level 3 – Solids, Surface Machining
Step 1:
CREATE ½ OF THE CAR BODY

OPEN F1 TEMPLATE FILE
➢ File
➢ Open
➢ Select the Beginner F1 Template Metric.mcx file

If you cannot find the file ask the teacher where to locate it
For those with internet access go tohttp://www.team-work.ca/F1/F1Main.html Download the BeginnerF1Template.zip file and ask your teacher where to copy it to.

➢ File
➢ Save as
➢ Name the file accordingly (do not use Beginner F1 Template.mcx)
➢ Save
➢ Click on Level, located at the bottom of the screen

The Level Manager is displayed as shown below

Note that Level 10 is highlighted in Yellow. This indicates that all the geometrycreated will be on Level 10, therefore your car will be created on level 10
Note that Level 10 also has a check mark beside it. This indicates that level 10 is visible

➢ Click on Used or named [this will show all the levels being used in this drawing]

➢ Scroll to Level 1 and click in the area under Visible, this will turn level 1 on and a checkmark will be displayed.
The LevelManager should look as shown below

➢ Click OK [pic]
➢ Change your Gview to Isometric [pic] (if it is not already)

➢ Select Solids / Solid Extrude
➢ Be sure the Chain button is enabled in the Chaining screen
















➢ chain your geometry as shown in the diagram below:

➢ OK [pic]
make sure the arrow is pointing in a Z+ direction(up). If it’s not click on the chaining position again to reverse it

➢ Extend by specified distance of Z 55mm as shown



➢ OK [pic]

















➢ The following solid body should be created as shown in the picture below

➢ Hold the ALT key and select the S key to turn the shading on. (Or select the shading icon from the toolbar)
➢ Hold the Altkey and select the S key to turn the shading back off.
You may want to keep the shading turned off in order to see the selection lines that will be opening as you go through this tutorial.



STEP 2:
CREATE THE COCKPIT SHAPE

➢ CHANGE YOUR GVIEW TO ISOMETRIC (IF IT IS NOT ALREADY)
➢ Click on Level
➢ Select levels 2 and turn off level 1
➢ OK
➢ Fit to Screen [pic]
➢Select Solids / Solid Extrude
➢ chain the geometry as shown in the picture below:
the direction of the arrow can point either way

➢ Ok
➢ Select Cut Body / Extend through all / Both directions / as shown



➢ OK
➢ Select Alt and S to turn the shading on
➢ Turn shading off

Step 3:
UNDERBODY

➢ CLICK ON LEVEL
➢ Select level 3 and turn off level 2
➢OK
➢ Fit to Screen [pic]
➢ Select Solids / Solid Extrude
➢ Chain the geometry as shown below

The direction of the arrow does not matter

➢ Ok
➢ Fill out the selections as shown


➢ OK
➢ Turn on Shading (Alt S)
➢ Select the Isometric icon [pic] (or right click on your mouse and select Isometric).







Step 4:
CREATING THE HOOD AND DRIVERSSEAT

➢ CLICK ON LEVEL
➢ Select level 4 and turn off level 3
➢ OK
➢ Fit the part to the screen [pic]
➢ Select Solids / Solid Extrude
➢ Chain the geometry as shown below

➢ Ok
The direction of the arrow does not matter

➢ Fill out the selections as shown
➢ Ok














Step 5
CREATE THE FRONT WING

➢ SELECT LEVEL
➢ Turn offlevel 4 and turn on level 5
➢ OK
➢ Select Solids /Solid Extrude
➢ Chain the geometry as shown below;

➢ Ok
The direction of the arrow should be pointing towards you, if it is not, click on the chaining position again to reverse it
➢ Ok
➢ Fill in the Extrude Chain parameter screen as shown. Be sure to type in Front Wing beside name and enter the distance you want...
