BEOWULF

Beowulf is a famous epic that has an unknown author. Beowulf is an old story from the Danes culture and is well known around the world. In this story people can find almost all thecharacteristics of an epic like for example this poem reflects timeless values such as courage and honor.
The king Hrothgar has been deserted for twelve year because Grendel. “So Grendel ruled, fought withthe righteous, one against many, and won; so Herot stood empty and stayed deserted for years. Twelve winters of grief for Hrothgar…” (59, 34) It says how Grendel ruled in that land because he was astrong monster and nobody could defeat him. “Seeing how Grendel hunted when they slept” (56, 34) these quotations show us how Grendel fights against many men and he can finally deserted kingHrothgar’s hall. The second quotation explains how Grendel did his job, and how he killed everybody else. Now we know what happened with the problem why and how king Hrothgar was deserted for twelve year.Beowulf was a strong hero and he also was a good fighter, and this part is important battle for the story. Here there are some quotations that explain how the battle was. “He twisted in pain, and thebleeding sinews deep in his shoulder snapped, muscle and bone split” (337, 43) Beowulf was the only warrior who can kill Grendel because he was the best. He found Grendel´s weak parts and he stared to hithim in those parts. “Grendel saw that his strength was deserting him, his claws bound fast, Higlac’s brave follower tearing at his hands” (333, 43) Grendel knew that he was losing, he felt withoutstrength. And that is how Beowulf finally can defeat the big monster Grendel.
When Grendel´s mother saw what Beowulf did to her son, she decided to do some things. “She’d taken Hrothgar’s closest friendthe man he most loved of all men on earth” (414, 45) She took revenge killing Hrothgar´s best friend, he was a good man so that is why the king is so sad. “Devastated by the loss of his friend,...
