Charles Dickens´ Discourse

It is observed by Pater ´´Different classes of persons, at different times, make, of course, very various demands upon literature…but… will always look to it, as to all other fine art, for a refuge, a sort of cloistral refuge, from a certain vulgarity in the actual world.´´
But what happens when literature brings this vulgarity to the cloistralrefuge? Why someone dares to tarnish the immaculate art of writing with worldly matters? Can time modify the desire of nice things on literature too? Pater also says ´´A writer, full of a matter he is before all things anxious to express´´. And, to add this, Mr. Teun A. Van Dijk claims, in discourse in society, that writing and speaking are acts controlled and equipped with intentions and purpose,immersed always in society. Therefore, the writer is a spokesman of a determined society and a specific time, who has an intention of expressing either his personal position or point of view of a determined situation or issue. Cause,(este cause se ve raro aqui pienso que otro conector quedaría major besides, or therefore) an author represents a conception of the world fixed in a specificcontext, and, his writing turns him into the representative of a set of circumstances.
Consequently, in order to understand Charles Dickens, hence his writing, we have to fully understand his context, since, discourse is analyzed in relation to the context. Unnecessary comment
One of the main premise that guides this paper, is what enclose the idea claimed by Mijaíl Bajtín that the social language isa discourse of a specific social stratum, which we understand as profession, economy, politic, culturally and so on, in a determined social system and at a given moment. Then, the first step we have to take in order to close Mr. Dickens is to set the boundaries of his social context.
Our friend, Charles, was born on 7 February, 1812, date that coincides with one of the greatest periods inEngland history, The Victorian Era. Which as Wikipedia states: “It was a long period of peace, prosperity, refined sensibilities and national self-confidence for Britain”, and I dare to offer the opinion of one of the Dickens´ characters, *Cecilia Jupe, -“I thought I couldn’t know whether it was a prosperous nation or not, and whether I was in a thriving state or not, unless I knew who had got themoney, and whether any of it was mine”. Because, despite the good condition the British nation was having, many of his inhabitants know what poor and misery were. And I mentioned this due to the fact that our friend was not the exception. Charles was the son of a clerk, who only was able to pay him few years of private education. Charles had to face the cruelty of his time, when he was only 12, hisfather was imprisoned owing to his debts, and the young boy was send with a family friend. Later, he began to work at Warren's Blacking Warehouse, ten-hour per day. And to conclude the national context of Britain, the 19th century is commonly known as the most important period in the world economy, the Industrial Revolution, which brought, among many other things, a huge population increase incities that kept wage down, in addition the employment of young children in factories and mines, so that Dickens had to confront a very dark horizon that were offered to kids at that time, since they were underpaid, he barely earned to keep a subsistence level.
Then, it is no rarely that work conditions made a deep impression in our friend from the very beginning. Since the major theme of his workis concerned with working-class, especially kid workers. One concrete example of this is Oliver Twist, which is the story of an orphan poor boy in the Victorian England, who is forced to work and suffer hunger And the constants exposures to death in epoch that did not care of children…
