Ever since I was a little girl I always dreamt of becoming a successful, serviceable, and happywoman. There are not enough people in the world motivated towards the goal of making the world a better place. There are many people in need of food, water, health, and, many other things. The problemis that most do not have the recourses to overcome the struggle they are going through. This is why many people unite and help the ones in need. It feels great when you help someone like a bum thatis on the street that is in need of food or water; or an elder who needs for someone to open the door for them or just make them smile and laugh. Just to see a smile or half a smile on their face makesyou feel like an amazing person.
When I was about 10 years old my grandmother’s sister, whom I call my aunt, took me to the Veterans Hospital here in Puerto Rico, to the area where she “worked” as avolunteer. She taught me and showed me what she did and how she did it. She usually took me during the summer when I had no school. We went to the nursing home where the elderly were. They seemedvery lonely and made me sad every time I saw one struggling to eat or in a hospital bed. I talked to them and made them laugh and they also made me laugh when they made jokes. It seemed sad to me becausemost of them their family never went there to visit them and I took charge of the duty of them having someone to talk to or even a simple smile was all they needed to fill their day with joy.
