Raul Alonso Biography
(Buenos Aires, 25 Jan 1923; d 31 July 1993). Argentine draughtsman, painter and printmaker. He was self-taught and in 1943 began to illustratepublications throughout Latin America, continuing to do so for more than 20 years. His early work consisted of highly emotive ink drawings marked by an intricacy ofdesign and lack of idealization, for example the vacuum ii (1976). He later worked in both pastels and oils to create spectral images of love, death, eroticism and theobscure world of nightmares, fears and terrors. Critics sometimes spoke of these in terms of magic realism, although he did not subscribe to any specific stylistictendency. He often treated human heads and figures in fragmentary form, as if they were the victims of violent torture, and with a veiled but sarcastic humour.

Más tarde trabajó en los dos pasteles y aceites para crear imágenes espectrales de amor, la muerte, el erotismo y el oscuro mundo depesadillas, miedos y terrores. Críticos a veces hablaba de ellos en términos de realismo mágico, a pesar de que no se adhirió a ninguna tendencia estilística específica.Que con frecuencia se trata de cabezas humanas y figuras en forma fragmentaria, como si fueran las víctimas de la tortura violenta, y con un humor sarcástico pero velada.
