Acknowledgments
In 1992 and 1993, the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention funded
15 evaluationprojects whose primary
goal was to identify interventions that
change violence-related attitudes,
beliefs and behaviors among children
and youths. The investigators and
program staff from these projects made
invaluable contributions to the field of
violence prevention and were
instrumental to the development of the
first edition of this compendium
published in 1998. Since that time,additional studies have been completed
which serve to further enrich our ability
to evaluate outcomes of violence
prevention efforts. There have also been
a number of longitudinal studies
conducted over the last two decades that
have greatly enhanced our
understanding of the factors that
increase and decrease the risk for youth
violence. We wish to acknowledge and
thank all individuals whohave
contributed measures to this
compendium and who have helped to
move the field of violence prevention
forward.
