Da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci ("Lionardo di ser Piero da Vinci") was born on April 15, 1452, in the Tuscan hill town of Vinci, Italy. He didn’t have a surname,"da Vinci" simply means "of Vinci". He is one of the greatest painters of all timeand probably the most diversely talented human being of all time. Among is work, theMonaLisa and The Last Supper are the most famous. He was also a sculptor, an engineer, an architect, an inventor, a scientist and a naturalist.
Giorgio Vasari wrote abouthim: In the normal course of events many men and women are born with remarkable talents; but occasionally, in a way that transcends nature, a single person ismarvelously endowed by Heaven with beauty, grace and talent in such abundance that he leaves other men far behind, all his actions seem inspired and indeed everything he doesclearly comes from God rather than from human skill. Everyone acknowledged that this was true of Leonardo da Vinci, an artist of outstanding physical beauty, who displayedinfinite grace in everything that he did and who cultivated his genius so brilliantly that all problems he studied he solved with ease.
Little is known about Da Vinci’searly life, but he’s considered to have had learning disabilities including dyslexia and ADD. His journals were mostly written in mirror-image cursive and are know tohave many spelling errors. He received an informal education in Latin, geometry and mathematics but did not show any particular signs of aptitude. Da Vinchi overcame hislearning disabilities by focusing his thoughts into creating art and developing ideas. He even conceptualized a helicopter which was not feasible during his lifetime.
