Drug addiction can occur in the cases of both legal and illegal substance use. It isas easy to get addicted to some prescription drugs as "party" or "recreational" drugs like cocaine. Even household items can be addictive when used to get high.

When physical illness occurs when the effects of a drug wear off, the user is addicted to that substance.
