The stomach is a muscular, hollow, dilated part of the digestion system which functions as an important organ of the digestive tract in some animals, including vertebrates, echinoderms, insects (mid-gut), and molluscs. It is involved in the second phase of digestion, following mastication (chewing).
The stomach is located between the esophagus and the small intestine. Itsecretes protein-digesting enzymes called protease and strong acids to aid in food digestion, (sent to it via oesophageal peristalsis) through smooth muscular contortions (called segmentation)before sending partially digested food (chyme) to the small intestines.
The word stomach is derived from the Latin stomachus which is derived from the Greek word stomachos, ultimately fromstoma (στόμα), "mouth". The words gastro- and gastric (meaning related to the stomach) are both derived from the Greek word gaster (γαστήρ). Human Anatomy
Indigestion and heartburn arecommon problems. You can alleviate some gastric problems with counter medications and changes in lifestyle, such as avoiding fatty foods and eat more slowly. Other problems such as peptic ulceror reflux disease or GERD need medical attention.

You should see a doctor if you have any of the following symptoms:

Blood in the stool
Severe abdominal pain
Heartburn not relievedwith antacids
Unintentional weight loss
Vomiting or diarrhea

The stomach has five parts:
Cardia: the upper portion (closest to the esophagus).
Background: located near the cardia. Somecells in these areas produce stomach acid and pepsin (a digestive enzyme), parts of the gastric juice that help digest food.
Housing: the area between the upper and lower parts of thestomach.
Antro: the bottom (closest to the intestine), where the food is mixed with gastric juice.
Pylorus: acts as a valve to control the emptying of stomach contents into the small intestine.
