WHAT ARE THEY DOING - PRESENT CONTINUOUS

What are they doing?

Students (4th level) are learning the structure of “Present Continuous”. They have learnt the structure of these sentences: SUBJECT+ VERB TO BE + VERB + ING + COMPLEMENTS.

They have done the worksheet on the right. The answers, if you want to practise, are:

b) He is playing computer games.
c) He is cooking a roast chicken.
d) He is playing football.
e) She is playing the guitar.f) She is driving a car.
g) She is doing exercise.
h) She is singing.
i) He is walking
j) He is eating a carrot.
k) She is feeding the cat.
l) She is reading a book.(Use the pictures which represent what are they doing).

I hope it can help you in order to learn the structure of this kind of sentences.

1 - The main use of the present progressive is todescribe an action going on now. That's why generally the people telling us what they are doing while they do it.

Also is used:
2 - To describe longer actions in progress, for example, "He isstudying to become a doctor".

3 - for actions in the near future. For example, "She is meeting her boyfriend in a bar tonight". This is the same as "She is going to meet her boyfriend in a bartonight".

4 - for actions which are repeated, with adverbs like "always" or "constantly". For example, "I don't like those people because they are always making trouble".
