In defense of Poetry
Most of the young people now a day are too simple. They act by instincts and not by thinking. Instead of focusing on the consequences, they end up pleasuring themselves with the instant satisfaction. Subsequently, they manage to justify their actions without supporting arguments or logicalreasons. Reading is a crucial arm in the life of a growing up human being and throughout all existence. It gives us another vision of the world, its content, its components, the people that compose it and most importantly its meaning and purpose. Teenagers need to develop reading patterns and get involved with different types of works especially ones on poetry. Poetry should be included in theacademic curriculum of high school students because it will help them develop their critical analysis and an abstract thought.
Usually when children hear the word poem, they get frightened. Suddenly, an intense feeling of fear and frustration concentrates in their minds and blocks it from their system unconsciously. This occurs because they have been taught, in general, from the beginning thatpoetry is complicated and impossible to understand. Teachers, themselves, need to understand that early children need to grow up with an open mind for critical thinking so that, when they begin to experience real situations, they can think them over and evaluate. There is so much more to life than what we are teaching young people today. The same way, there is a lifetime

reasons in which wecould base the love for poetry and the immense importance of it. “Poetry is sensuous, emotional, experiential, rooted in feeling… poetry is personal, subjective, a product of imagination, and an expression of something deep in the poet’s soul.” (Peter Lamarque, 644) This is what we should be searching for in each and single life that comes to this world so difficult and that shines for its lackof sensibility. If we just gave it the opportunity, it could truly change our lives and the course of it.
The transition from high school to college is usually very hard for a teenager. The adaptation and adjustment, the new people, the diverse teaching and studying techniques, and the management of their time now that they do not have anyone watching over them, may set them a little bit off andconfused. If they have had a base in poetry analysis, it should have helped the development of their maturity to analyze and explore new and improved things and properly manage them. They would be acquainted with some adult work and it would be easier to understand the way college works. As soon as required work of the different subjects, from the simplest to the most complex one, they would havean open mind find for reasoning, analyzing, accepting and understanding in a more efficient way. It will also help them make the wisest decision when they find themselves between going out to have fun or staying home to study and work on assignments. This is one of the situations that is affecting the most our college youth in this latter days. Peer pressure turns us against ourselves in a tenuousunexpected way that blinds every sane particle in our minds. With the help poetry can bring, those problems could be surpassed.
Let’s think about all the generations that could be saved. In our days what we see is a youth without principles and moral values. They act without thinking and exploring other options

or evaluating the possible consequences; positive and negative ones.Without knowing that consequences could, not only affect our present, but also our past in enormous and significant ways. If we go a little deeper into their past, we would most certainly discover that they never learned to appreciate the art that poetry is or understand what poetry can reach in their own individual lives and also collectively as a generation. We could have rational and positive...
