Every four years on the second Tuesday of November, occurs one of the most important events in the history of the United States, and who decides the direction in which it is going to lead the Nation and its influence in the world. After World War II and the Cold War, United States consolidated as the universal power until these days. UnitedStates, the first democratic country in the region periodically choose between two systems of government. The Democratic and the Republican. As this is a major event for American citizens, and generally for the whole world, it was decided to make televised debates, so that American citizens have the opportunity to choose between these two systems of government. On September 26, 1960, in Chicago washeld the first televised debate between Kennedy and Nixon in which 70 million mainstay of any democratic system. The media plays an important role in this event, as they are responsible for spreading the message that the presidential candidates want to give to the public and international public opinion, which are following this event at the moment. The last debate in this presidential race, wasestablished the discution of the political project of each party, in relation to foreign policy.
This paper aims to demonstrate, and implement, the structural and functional theory in two different articles on the last debate between the two presidential candidates, foreign policy and representing each party. As well as the effect of the media in the American population, in this particularevent. Both articles which are based on my study are about the last debate in the United States before the presidential election. these two articles taken from the pages of CNN and BBC News on the Internet speak about the last debate on foreign policy where clear winner given as current President Obama against his opponent Romney. Bring different polls as evidence of a clear victory in the debate byObama and likely victory in the presidential
Structural-functionalism is a consensus theory; a theory that sees society as built upon order, interrelation, and balance among parts as a means of maintaining the smooth functioning of the whole. Structural-Functionalism views shared norms and values as the basis of society, focuses on social order based on tacit agreements between groups andorganizations, and views social change as occurring in a slow and orderly fashion. Functionalists acknowledge that change is sometimes necessary to correct social dysfunctions (the opposite of functions), but that it must occur slowly so that people and institutions can adapt without rapid disorder. In brief society has needs which media can satisfy.
The role of these online media is to inform thevoters about the last debate held by the presidential candidates. And the perception that the winner was President Obama, and that through polls carried out have ascertained who was the winner of the night. the way in which aired this message was very effective because as it is a major event and the interest of millions of people. There is interest from these media, to emphasize and give the winnerto President Obama, as its editorial line is more liberal. We see this effect as simple view corresponds to the interpretation of the message.
