Estilos De Management Entre Belgica Y España
In this essay we are going to compare the difference between the Belgium management style and the Spanish management style. We can explain these differences based on various factors such as culture, size of the company, morals, values… we will take the main factors. It’s obvious that the Spanish people, Alvaro and Miguel wrote about theSpanish management style and vice versa for the Belgian part.
Belgian Market features and management style
Belgium has an open management style. The Belgian approach is characterized by a desire for compromise and the need to reach a workable, acceptable solution. If there are issues they will be discussed. If all your employees are happy they will work better (synergy effect). But sometimes wesee that discussing those problems can’t solve them. In this case the employee starts gossiping about their coworkers or their boss. This is really bad for any company, but this can be considered as a global problem. In some situations the managers in Belgium like to involve their employees during decision-making process. Belgians are used to take decisions based upon information that has beengathered by all concerned parties. Middle mangers and managers make most decisions for their work group. So gathering all this information by all the responsible parties is a real time consuming process. It’s quite normal to work in groups in Belgium. The manager will appoint a project leader. This leader is responsible for the group. The project leader does the talking with the manager when the groupdecisions are made. However the project leader can’t dominate the group discussion.
The role of the leader is to harness the talent of the group assembled, and develop any resulting synergies. The leader will be deferred to as the final authority in any decisions that are made, but they do not dominate the discussion or generation of ideas. Praise should be given to the entire group as well asto individuals.
There are already a lot of researches regarding the management styles of Europe, in special Belgium. To write this paper I used these researches as a source. The 3 common factors that influence the management style in Europe are as following: expertise, competitiveness and setting standards of excellence. Below I will provide more detail on these factors.
Expertise:their level of technical expertise and orientation toward detail
and in-depth analyses. As a group they tend to put some emphasis on
this aspect of the leadership role, but do not make it a focus of their
approach.
2. Competitiveness: how forceful they are, and the extent to which they
will push to achieve results. European managers, in general, will tend to
look for win-win solutions vs.behaving competitively.
3. Setting standards of Excellence: their ability to set expectations for
themselves and their organizations and their willingness to work hard to
achieve results. Once again, they spend some time on these types of
activities, but it is not necessarily their top priority.
However there are distinctive characteristics for each country. [1]
In Belgium, the managersare standard bearers for best practices, well
aware of problems that have been faced before and the knowledge to avoid
them in the future. They have the greatest respect for authority and loyalty to
the organization and the greatest willingness to compromise. They put the
needs of the organization above their own personal objectives. According to the European standards, the Belgian managers, especially those from Flemish origin, work the hardest to gain as much money as possible. They want this for themselves and the company.
The level of empathy is very high in Belgium. Managers care about their employees in an open way. They are always available to have a conversation about personal and professional issues.
In Belgium the managers have a lot of stress due to the pressure. They...
