Description:
Students will observe how the incidence of the sunrays modifies the planet´s temperatures and how they heat the planet´s surface in different proportions. Also the students will be able to identify why the zones near the equator line are among the most productive from the planet.

Objectives:
Torelate the concept of latitude with the sunrays incidence (incoming angle) and it´s relation with the planet´s most productive zones (1.2.4 Identify factors that determine climate).

Investigation question or hypothesis:

Is the temperature between the Capricorn Tropic and the Equator greater than the temperature at the North Pole?

Skills to evaluate:
• Observe: to become aware throughthe senses of a change, or transformation of an object or variable during testing of a fact, or phenomenon then registering it.
• Manipulate: Handle an object or any other instrument.
• Variable identification: Clearly identify the dependant (measured), independent (manipulated) and controlled variables (constants) that are pertinent and are part of the experiment, which directlyaffects the results.
• Data register: To take notes through tables, lists or any other way the qualitative or quantitative data obtained by measurement or experimentation, including units or uncertainties.

Materials:
Table 1. Materials required
|Cantidades |Descripción |
|1 |100 watts tablelamp |
|1 |Big styrofoam ball |
|1 |Aluminum foil paper roll |
|1 |Thermometer |
|1|30 cms plastic ruler |
|1 |Marker |
|1 |stand |
|1 |Clamp/Holder|

Methodology:
1. Cover completely the Styrofoam ball with the aluminum paper.
2. Draw a line with the marker at the middle of the ball (this will simulate the equator line)
3. Draw another two lines below and above the equator line to simulate the Cancer and Capricorn tropics (remember to keep the same cms distance between the tropicslines).
4. Grab the Styrofoam ball with the clamp/holder and place them in the stand.
5. Place the lamp at some 10 cms from the Styrofoam ball and turn it on.
6. Heat the ball for 15 minutes.
7. Analyze the procedure you just followed and identify the dependent and independent variables that will affect the results of the experiment; write them in the Table 2.1, don’t forget writing a title forthe table.
8. After the 15 minutes are over, using the thermometer register the temperatures from the 5 lines in the Styrofoam ball.
9. Fill the Table 2.2 with the data obtained, don’t forget writing a title for the table.
