NOUNS
Every word used to describe things, people, things, events or places that haveindependent existence. Example: john, cat, table, party, London, etc...
CLASSES OF NOUNS:
Proper: name persons, animals or things in particular. Example: George, Villavicencio, England, etc...Abstracts: naming things that you cannot touch or see. Example: democracy, truth, friendship, etc...
Common: they designate people, animals and objects of the same species. Men, dogs, cats, books, etc...Collective: named groups people, animals or things. Example: people, class, army, police, etc...
ORTHOGRAPHIC RULES:
1. Most nouns add S to form the plural.
2. Nouns ending in s, ss, sh, ch, x, zES added to the singular to form the plural.
3. Ending nouns in a consonant preceded by E s, c, z y g, delete this e before adding ES
4. If a noun ends in a consonant more and i add ES.
5. If anoun ends in F or FE, changes such termination by VES
The exceptions are:
Roofs, safes, proofs, Beliefs, handkerchiefs, cliffs, dwarfs, cuffs, chiefs.
6. The plural form of nouns ending inconsonants preceded by O, is formed by adding ES and if it is preceded by a vowel is added only S. Some words ending in O, add only S.
Halos, pianos, banjos, Tobaccos, photos, sopranos.
IRREGULARPLURALS
1. Some nouns form their plural in an irregular manner.
NOTE: the singular form of people, can be: person, woman, man, child. EJ: one man and one child = two people.
2. Some kinds of animalsand fish retain the same form in singular and plural. EJS: a flock of sheep.
3. Certain nouns of foreign origin are used with the plural of origin.
