¡Heroico regimiento! Te saludo
En nombre de la Patria, te bendigo
Por qué jamás en los combates pudo
Resistir tu valor en el enemigo
Porque peleando has infundido miedo,
Sindar descanso, ni pendón, ni tregua,
Y así has triunfando con igual denuedo
En Piragua [sic], Dolores y Moquegua
.Allí has vengado del Perú la ofensa,
Allí lo has puesto con Bolivia enJaque;
Mostrándote tan firme en la defensa
Como audaz y resulto en el ataque.
Para ti no hay cansancio ni fatigas
Nunca el desierto te causo desmayo
Y destrozas las huestes enemigas
Comodestroza el fulminante rayo.

The first poem is a Chilean talking or narrating the acts occurring in thewar. He states how brave the Chilean army is. They have in funded fear into their enemies and they never surrender. Whatever hour, day or weather, they have to face, they’ll stand brave.Standing firm against Bolivia, there is no end for you… Chilean army.
The second one talks about how hard it was being recruited by the force to go fight for the Chilean army. It waswritten in the time of the war of the pacific. The man complains on how much he will suffer for only getting some “pennies”. And as I said before, you had to do it either you wanted or not.Both of the poems relate to the war of the pacific. One states the cruel life of a soldier, specifically on the Chilean side and the other gives us the view point of a high-ranked soldier.
