Themes Definition ExampleLocation To locate places. Absolute location is the exact point where a place is located. Geographers use a satellite system called the Global Positioning System (GPS) to find absolute location. Relativelocation is where a place is in relation to other places. The great wall is located near Beijing in northern china.
Place Includes the characteristic of a location. A famous place in the western UnitedStates is the Grand Canyon. It has steep rock walls that were carved over centuries by the Colorado river.
Human- Environment interaction Explains how people affect the environment and how theenvironment affects people.
People build dams to change the flow river.
Movement How people, ideas, and animals move from one place to another. The spread of different religions around the world.
RegionA group of places that have common characteristics. North America is a region that includes the United States, and Canada.
