Chilean coup d'état
The Chilean coup d’état was an event that happened on September 11, 1973 in the Palacio de la Moneda in Santiago de Chile. It wasplanned by a section of the Armada de Chile. Subsequently added the high command of the armed forces and police, and led by Army General Augusto Pinochet,in addition to being influenced by various groups of national and international power, like American president Nixon.
The causes were the measures thatSalvador Allende was taking place to socialize property and wealth.
Therefore, the democratically elected government was attacked by the reactionary andwith the help of the American CIA and through the coup usurped power whose consequences were the killing, torture or exile of the political opposition, topursue a country project linked to U.S. interests.
The result was an air attack against the Palacio de la Moneda where president Salvador Allende was. Afterthe air attack a group of soldiers entered into the Palacio de la Moneda and asked president to surrender but he refused and committed suicide with anAK-47 given by Fidel Castro.
After the coup d’état Augusto Pinochet began a dictatorship from 1973 to 1990.
I think it was a bad thing, because all thatPinochet wanted was power and he put the army of Chile against their president, and that cannot happen, and I think that USA did something wrong by helpingPinochet because Allende wanted communism. My opinion is that these things can’t happen because it can begin an internal war that can give bad results.
