Anna and the King
Anna is a teacher from England who traveled with her son to Siam, today known as Thailand. in the movie her adventures are narrated and pictured, how she lived and herexperiences of living in a whole different country to England. Anna is supposed to teach all the King’s daughters and sons, as it can be imagine is a hard situation for her where she needs to adapt to new normsof culture. And the King as well need to adapt himself to the way she teaches, what she likes, and was she is used to as a way to keep her feel as she were in home.
In the movie were used twodifferent languages which are Thai and English, to communicate with each other is easy to notice that the king speaks English as Anna speaks Thai. Anna gave her classes in English to and Thai to thekids, all of them knew English so it was easier for her to communicate and teach to them. A good example is when Anna arrives to the palace, and the king talks to her in English, as soon as the kingpresented his sons and daughters to Anna, one of the little guys started to complain about the situation speaking Thai so Anna and her son will not be able to understand what is he talking about. Annaintroduces herself and her son in Thai so she let them know she knows what they are talking about too. A thing can be say that they were not a lot of language barriers because each other can understandThai and English.
Is good to say that exist other ways to communicate when the culture is different and the language, this is the nonverbal communication. Sometimes is not so good because in anotherculture you don’t know what body language or signs are offensive to the people in other cultures. As it was presented in the movie was not a big problem, not offensive nonverbal communication wasshown, but there was the nonverbal communication when feelings come out.
