“Hazing is a term used to describe various rituals and other activities involving harassment, abuse or humiliation used as a way of initiating a person into a group.”
Thisactivities have been used a lot just for people to have fun laughing at the person doing the ritual or game they have to do to be accepted and sometimes after doing all the sacrifices they are not acceptedin those groups which is really unfair to those people after all the effort they did to get in. The students most of the times that apply to these groups are just looking for ways to belonging tosomething and to not feel left alone. Hazing have become illegal in the U.S, that is the country with higher percentage of this kind of activities mostly in the fraternities in the universities all overthe country. Although hazing is often seen in universities it also happen in high schools just like bullying.
Some statistic proves the alarming levels of hazing that happen at high schools anduniversities like: 1.5 million high school students are hazed each year, 43% were subjected to humiliating activities and 30% performed potentially illegal acts as part of their initiation in the groups.And more than 250,000 students in universities experienced some sort of hazing to join a college athletic team, 40% report that a coach or club advisor was aware of the hazing. 55% of collegestudents involved in clubs, teams and organizations experience hazing. Alcohol consumption, humiliation, isolation, sleep-deprivation, and sexual acts are hazing practices common across all types of studentgroups. As of February 12, 2010, the number of recorded hazing/pledging/rushing-related deaths in fraternities and sororities stands at 96 - 90 males and 6 females, 82% of these deaths involvesalcohol.
Through these statistics we can see that many students are bully in high school and in college and they allow themselves to be hazed just because they have the need to become part of something...
