“THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”

The U.S. history is a clear example of progress, it can be seen in various stages marked by difficulties, mistakes, setbacks and great victories that have come to become strong and powerful nation it’s today. Coupled with this, it’s noteworthy that has had respected and admired politicians and scientists who have beeninstrumental in every stage of the history of this country.

This essay analyzes American history from its beginnings, starting with the arrival of the first Americans who crossed Asia to settle in what is now the United States, comes after the colonial period through various stages as it’s Independence, Civil War, the abolition of slavery until the World Wars. These stages marked astrong development in society, because of potential wars and the various changes in the nation.

Later, settlers came to America for different reasons, creating 13 different colonies, forming three regional groupings of colonies. First, in the northeast was the "New England" including Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Colonies of the middle region were New York,Pennsylvania, New Amsterdam, New Jersey and Delaware. Finally, the southern colonies were Virginia, Maryland, Georgia and the Carolinas. After several disputes and excessive laws, the revolution was swift; the U.S. war for independence from Britain began on 19 April 1775. The chief commander of the colonies was George Washington of Virginia.

The calls for independence intensified, designating acommittee headed by Thomas Jefferson, of Virginia, to prepare a document outlining the grievances of the colonies against the king and explaining the decision to break away. The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776. However, this fact didn’t declare independence that Americans were free, wasn’t until the year 1783 by the peace treaty signed in Paris where he acknowledged theindependence, freedom and sovereignty of the 13 former American colonies, now states. The following stage was to unite them all in a new nation.

The Revolutionary War brought out the concept of the motherland, love for her and her lands, and nationalism as a strong cultural identity. This set of values would be the basis for a promising future and progress in all areas.

In 1789,George Washington served as first president of the United States, followed by John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, representatives and founders of two different political parties, the Federalists and Republicans respectively.

Moreover, the sectoral conflict was more evident in the north of the country the movement to abolish slavery was very active and became increasingly powerful, while in thesouth, there was the belief in white supremacy and the desire to maintain economic status. This triggered what is known as the Civil War that took place in 1861. The Southern states claimed the right to secede and form their own constitution. For four years, tens of thousands of soldiers and horses participated in the battles.

Meanwhile, President Lincoln issued the EmancipationProclamation which freed all slaves living in Confederate states and authorized the recruitment of African-Americans in the Union army. Unfortunately, the divisions and hatreds that led to the Civil War didn’t disappear at the end of armed struggle; the postwar reconstruction process fell into a pit of corruption and racism.

Moreover, the United States matured and became an urban nation, therewere large factories and great inventions came to light. In the late nineteenth century America was already a world power.

In 1900 the political foundations of the United States had resisted a civil war, prosperity and economic depression; however, political power appeared to be concentrated in the hands of corrupt political officials and their business friends. In response, a reform...
