History of Computing
The computer or computer, not a figment of anyone in particular, but the result of evolutionary ideas and achievements of many people involved in areas such as electronics, mechanics, semiconductor materials, logic, algebra and programming.
Age Media
The Persian mathematician and engineer Musa al-Juarismi (780-850), invented the algorithm, ie solving algebra problemsmethodically and numeracy through a well-defined list, ordered and finite operations to find the solution to problem posed.
XVII Century
1617: Just before dying, the Scottish mathematician John Napier (1550-1617), famous for his invention of logarithms, developed a system for manipulating arithmetic bars, which he called "bones" as they were built with material bone or ivory, and in which wereembodied the digits. Given its nature, the system is called "Napier's bones" (Abacus neperiano). Napier's bones had a strong influence on the development of the slide rule (five years later) and subsequent calculating machines, which received logarithms.
1623: The first mechanical calculator was designed by Wilhelm Schickard in Germany. Called "calculating clock", the machine joined Napier'slogarithms, he rolled in a shelter large cylinders. It commissioned a calculator watch for Johannes Kepler, the famous mathematician, but was destroyed by fire before it was finished.
1624: The first slide rule was invented by English mathematician William Oughtred. The slide rule (called "Circles of Proportion") was a set of rotating disks that were calibrated with Napier's logarithms. Was used as one ofthe first analog computing apparatus. Its heyday lasted about a century, the period between the second half of the nineteenth century and the last quarter of the twentieth, until early 1970, portable calculators began to be popular.
• 1645: Blaise Pascal invented the Pascaline. With this machine, the data is represented by the positions of the gears. The pascaline is one of the first mechanicalcalculators, based running wheels ten teeth in which the teeth each representing a digit from 0 to 9. The wheels were connected so that they could join making numbers of teeth move the correct number.
• 1666: Samuel Morland invented the first machine to multiply in the court of King Charles II of England. The apparatus consisted of a series of wheels, each of which representing tens, hundreds,etc.. A steel pin move the dials to perform the calculations. Unlike pascaline, this apparatus was not automatic feed columns.
• 1673: the German mathematician Gottfried Leibniz invented the first general purpose calculator. The apparatus was a departure from the pascaline, while using a cylinder operates teeth (Leibniz wheel) instead of the series of gears. Although the device could performmultiplication and division, suffered from reliability problems that diminished their Utilid.
Eighteenth Century
1769: Baron Wolfgang von Kempelen, a Hungarian nobleman, invents a supposedly automaton chess player, The Turk. Intended to be a pure machine, including a chess player "robotic", but it was a farce, the cabin was well-considered an optical illusion that allowed a chess master to hide insideand operate the mannequin. It was a sensation wherever he went but was destroyed by fire in 1856.
1777: Charles Mahon invented the first machine logic, "demonstrator logical." It was a handheld device that solved syllogisms traditional probability and elementary questions. Mahon is the precursor of the logical components in modern computers.
Nineteenth Century
1801: The Frenchman Joseph MarieJacquard, a mechanism used punched cards to control the pattern formed by the threads of fabrics made up for a knitting machine. These templates or perforated metal molds stitches allow tissue schedule, obtaining a variety of patterns and shapes. Inspired by musical instruments that were programmed using paper punch, the machine seemed to tie the loom that could automatically control the drawings...
