BARRAGAN

Luis Barragan was a Mexican architect born in Guadalajara in 1902. Riced in a prosperous, aristocratic family he did
not receive formal architectural training and never officiallybecame an architect, funny fact if you consider that he is
probably the most known Mexican architect. Awarded in 1980 with the Pritzker Price.

I can say based in my personal experience that morethan the exterior views of his buildings is the experience of their
interior spaces with natural and artifitial light and mobiliareies what really cautivated me.
The transitions spaces generated bybarragan between the exterior, the more intimate spaces and the work spaces
gives you the oportunity of passing from the masive scale of the city to the human scale of a house.

He sought forspaces with a subtle minimalism, with sober ornaments usually subjected to certain desired effect
with the interacting with natural light.
The main materials used by Barragan was the wood, concretewalls with a rough finish and colors that gave the
especific caracter to each space.

The interaction between interior and exterior spaces was made by openings in the structure that allowed, when itwas possible the view of a garden or an specific element that Barragan wanted to remark. Sometimes subjecting
the Formality of the building to effect that this will produce in to the user.
He madevarious collaborations with artists such as Mathias Goeritz and the industrial designer Clara Porset.

Convinced that architecture is a composition between exterior space, interior space, furnitureand the effect of light
produced on them as a cohesive element.
He always incorporated explicit or implicit religious elements in his architecture.

Each space clearly have a differentatmosphere produce by size of the room, the materials, the temperature of the
colors, the framed views.

He was really known because of his particular way to use of indirect light, same as used to flood...
