Manytypes of drugs are prohibited by drug prohibition laws. The black market has generated and estimated US $321.6 billion in 2003. With a GDP oj US $36 trillion on the same year. The illegal drug trade maybe estimated as slightly less than 1% of total global commerce. The consumption of illegal drugs is widespread globally. In many countries worldwide, the illegal drug trade is thought to be directlulinked to violent crimez such as murder. This is specially tru in third world countries. The US goverment's most recent 2005 National Survey on Drug Use and Health reported that nationwide over 800,000adolecents ages 12 - 17 sold illegal drugs. The addictive drugs were prohibited in the end of the 19th and early in the 20th centuries. An Illegal Drug Trade emerged in the 19th century retaliatedwith imports of opium. The two Opium Wars broke out. The opium is the dried latex obtain from the opium poppy. Opium contains up to 12% morphine, an alkaloid, so it is frecuently processed to makeheroin. In the first Opium War the Chinese authorities has banned opium but the United Kingdom forced China to allow the British merchants to trade the opium to the general population. Smoking opium in the19th century had become common and the merchants increased. Traiding in opium was extremly lucrative, as today in heroin trade. As a result of this illegal trade aproximately 2 million chinese peoplebecame addicted to the drug. The British crown took vast sums of money from the Chinese government through this illegal trade.
