My Role Model
Since the beginning of time athletes have been looked up to as role models for as long as sports have existed. There is just something great about the thought of being in good physical condition and being talented in sports. But, are athletes the kind of people that children shouldbe looking up to for direction and guidance? Many children often look up to the professional athletes as role models. They tend to know and follow in the footsteps of their favourite role models. If you ask any kid who their role model is, it’s almost certain that their answer will be the name of a professional athlete. My favourite athlete or role model that I chose for the creation of thisessay is non-other than the Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho because of his contribution on the field and off of it.
Because of today’s media, athletes are constantly in the public eye. Everything they do on and off of the playing field. Some professional athletes speak a positive message through their fame by demonstrating constructive ideas such as teamwork and commitment while they are on thefield. Even off of the playing field some athletes set a good example by visiting children in schools, going to hospitals, or even setting up foundations and organizations to help the ill and less fortunate people. This is how I would describe Ronaldinho. From his humble beginnings in the street of Porto Alegre, to when he was on top of the world winning everything with Barcelona and the Braziliannational football team, Ronaldinho has always maintained his humbleness even in the most tough times. His constant smile and his style of playing the game captured the eyes of millions of persons in the world. He was renowned as the best player in the world in the years 2004 and 2005 and during that time no one could deny that he was indeed a player out of this world and one of the greatest of alltime.
There’s a side of some athletes that’s most commonly seen when they are on the field. Athletes can be a very positive influence while on the playing field for many reasons. In the sport of football teamwork is displayed in such an important manner. It is where all the players working together and are all striving to reach the same goal. Anybody watching the game of football can clearly seethat the players must work together in both offense and defence to win the game. Ronaldinho’s display of teamwork was easily reflected in his stint in Barcelona. With his incomparable playing style he lifted the team and won both the Spanish league championship and the Uefa champions league which is the biggest trophy in European football.
