SITUATION AND GEOGRAPHY
The Alpujarra is located in Oriental Andalusia, between the provinces of Almería and Granada. It occupies approximately 2.600 Km2.
It is an area of outstanding natural beauty, defined to the North by the Sierra Nevada with the highest peaks in the Iberian peninsula, Mulhacén (3.481 m of height) and Veleta (3.392 m of height), and tothe South with the Mediterranean Sea.
Also the territory, are the Gador’s Sierra, the Lujar’s Sierra and the Contraviesa’s Sierra. It is a land formed by big mountains, quick ravines, shady ravines, enormous cuts, thrilling cuts and wonderful landscapes.
It is for all the above-mentioned, for what one can say that, The Alpujarra is halfway between the sky and the sea.
In TheAlpujarra you can see the change of the characteristic climatic conditions from the cold of the snow to the warm mediterranean climate in very few kilometres. On the other hand, the flora is very rich having natural forests of millennial oaks, forests of pines and chestnut trees
That fauna and flora is consequence of the wide variety of landscapes. In The Alpujarra (Grenadine and Almeriense),a great part of its territory is included in Sierra Nevada's National and Natural Parks.
